01 / Research & inspiration

From character
to collection.

Tank Girl was the starting point for my 2020 graduation collection.

Inspired by Alan Martin and Jamie Hewlett’s comic, I explored a graphic language of layered characters, repetition and bold colour. The concept brought textile graphics together with experimental garment shapes.

I designed and sewed five outfits, developing some of the textile patterns myself and having them printed for the collection.

02 / Textile graphic development

Print with
personality.

Four graphic studies explore colour, scale and repetition. Some of the self-designed patterns became printed textiles, carrying the comic-inspired visual language into the garments.

03 / Garment design & construction

Shape. Surface.
Attitude.

The graphic concept becomes something you can wear.

Broad shoulders, oversized sleeves and contrasting lengths give the finished looks their silhouettes. Printed surfaces sit alongside reflective-looking material and oversized patch details.

Designing and sewing the five outfits connected the concept to construction, volume and the way a garment is worn.

04 / Final presentation

Five outfits.
One collection.

I presented the collection at my final oral examination in summer 2020. The photographs shown here document selected finished looks.

The project brought together concept development, textile graphics and practical garment construction — a foundation for my approach to developing ideas through making.
